6 Dead, 25 Wounded In Weekend Shootings Across Chicago
CHICAGO (STMW) -- Six people were killed and at least 25 more have been wounded in shootings across the city since Friday evening.
The latest homicide happened Sunday morning in the Greater Grand Crossing neighborhood on the South Side.
Officers responding to a call of shots fired about 12:50 a.m. found a man, thought to be in his 20s, unresponsive inside a vehicle in an alley in the 7600 block of South Drexel, according to Chicago Police.
He was shot twice in the neck and pronounced dead at the scene, police said. The Cook County medical examiner's office could not immediately provide additional information.
About 6 p.m. Saturday, a 20-year-old man was shot to death in the Auburn Gresham neighborhood on the South Side.
Kori O. Sellers was sitting in the passenger seat with another person at the wheel of a car parked in the 8600 block of South Ashland when someone walked up, reached into the window across the driver and fired multiple shots at Sellers, authorities said.
Sellers, of the 7900 block of South Sangamon, was shot in the chest and arm, authorities said. The driver took him to St. Bernard Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 6:52 p.m.
Another South Side slaying happened Saturday morning in Englewood.
William Palmer, 32, was sitting in a vehicle near his home in the 6300 block of South Honore about 5:20 a.m. when a gunman walked up and shot him in the head, according to police and the medical examiner's office. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 5:58 a.m.
Two hours earlier, another man was killed in Washington Heights on the Far South Side.
About 3:15 a.m., he was outside in the 900 block of West 96th Street when two other people walked up and opened fire, hitting the man multiple times, police said. He was dead at the scene. Authorities said his name and age were still unknown Saturday night.
A half-hour before that, a 35-year-old man was found shot to death in the West Side Austin neighborhood.
Officers responding to a call of a person shot about 2:50 a.m. found the 35-year-old man unresponsive in the alley of the 200 block of North Laramie, police said. He had been shot once in the back of the head and was pronounced dead at the scene. His name has not been released.
The weekend's first fatal shooting happened about 6:45 p.m. Friday in Logan Square on the Northwest Side.
Daniel Alcantana, 20, was shot multiple times in the 2900 block of West Armitage and pronounced dead at the scene at 6:59 p.m., authorities said. He lived in the 900 block of North Harding.
The other man, 21, was shot in the leg and taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, where his condition was stabilized, police said. He told investigators he heard shots and realized he'd been hit.
The most recent nonfatal attack happened Sunday morning in the Irving Park neighborhood on the Northwest Side. A 27-year-old man was meeting with someone he knew about 6:05 a.m. in the 4000 block of West Belmont when the two got into an argument. the other person then pulled out a gun and shot the man in the head, police said He was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center in critical condition.
A Bridgeport neighborhood shooting three hours earlier left a man critically wounded on the South Side. The 36-year-old was standing on the back porch of a home about 3 a.m. in the 600 block of West 28th Street when someone opened fire, police said. He suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was taken in critical condition to Stroger Hospital.
About an hour earlier, a 25-year-old man was wounded in a Douglas neighborhood shooting early Sunday on the South Side. He was driving in a silver vehicle northbound in the 3500 block of South Vincennes about 2:05 a.m. when shots rang out and he was struck in the left arm, police said. The man drove himself to Provident Hospital, where he was listed in good condition.
Earlier Sunday, a 15-year-old boy was shot in the Back of the Yards neighborhood on the South Side. He was walking outside about 12:50 a.m. in the 4400 block of South Marshfield when he heard gunfire and felt pain, police said. The teenager suffered gunshot wounds to the left leg and back and was taken to Stroger Hospital, where his condition was stabilized.
At least 20 more people have been wounded in gunfire across Chicago since Friday evening.
