Police Warn Of Armed Robberies At South Side Businesses

CHICAGO (STMW) -- Police are warning residents of four recent armed robberies at stores and gas stations in the Gresham, Chatham and Brainerd neighborhoods on the South Side.

In each incident, the robber entered a retail store or gas station and, while in line to pay at the register, announced a robbery and displayed a handgun to the clerk, according to a community alert from Chicago Police. In three of the robberies, the suspect handed the clerk a note demanding money.

The robberies happened:

• at 1:23 a.m. May 21 in the 8600 block of South Morgan;
• at 4:36 p.m. June 4 in the 300 block of East 87th Street;
• at 5:20 p.m. June 6 in the 1200 block of West 95th Street; and
• at 11:20 a.m. June 13 in the 1200 block of West 87th Street.

The suspect is described as a black male, thought to be between 18 and 30 years old, standing between 5-foot-9 and 6-foot-1 and weighing between 150 and 200 pounds, police said.
