Bulls Acquire Spencer Dinwiddie From Pistons In Exchange For Cam Bairstow

By Cody Westerlund--

CHICAGO (CBS) -- As trade speculation continues to swirl less than a week before the NBA Draft, the Bulls made a minor move Friday.

Chicago traded power forward Cam Bairstow to the Detroit Pistons for guard Spencer Dinwiddie, the team announced. The Bulls had a need for reserve guards as Derrick Rose often deals with injury problems and E'Twaun Moore and Aaron Brooks are entering free agency. Acquiring Dinwiddie essentially gives Chicago a no-risk look at him over the summer, as he's currently on a non-guaranteed contract, with $250,000 of that becoming guaranteed on Nov. 1, according to The Vertical's Bobby Marks.

The 23-year-old Dinwiddie averaged 4.8 points and 1.8 assists in 12 games for the Pistons last season, when he was rarely in the rotation and also spent time in the D-League. Dinwiddie has a history of injuries, including ankle and knee ailments last year. He also tore his left ACL in January 2014 during his senior season at Colorado, which was part of the reason he fell from being projected in the first round to being selected in the second round (38th overall) by Detroit.

Dinwiddie is a career 17.3 percent 3-point shooter in limited action across two NBA seasons. In his rookie season of 2014-'15, he averaged 4.3 points in 34 games.

Bairstow, 25, was a little-used reserve for the Bulls, averaging 1.9 points and 1.6 rebounds in 18 games last season. Chicago selected Bairstow in the second round (49th overall) in the 2014 draft. Bairstow was a candidate to be waived by the Bulls this offseason before his money became guaranteed in late July.

The NBA Draft takes place next Thursday. The Bulls hold the Nos. 14 and 48 picks.
