CTA Train Lines Stopped In South Loop Due To Gas Leak
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Public transit has been brought to a virtual standstill after a gas leak forced several CTA train lines to be shut down in the South Loop.
The leak was reported near State and 9th streets at a building construction site. The fire department said the gas leak had been secured shortly before 5 p.m., but commuters should expect continued delays.
As of 4:50 p.m.:
Red Line: no rail service between Fullerton and Cermak-Chinatown; bus shuttles are being implemented to serve affected stations between Fullerton and Cermak-Chinatown.
Orange Line: Loop-bound trains turning at Roosevelt. No service in Loop.
Green Line: Harlem-bound trains turning at Roosevelt; and Cottage-Ashland/63rd –bound trains are circling the Loop and heading back to Harlem/Lake.
In addition, Purple Line express trains have been temporarily suspended.
The Brown and Pink lines are running their normal routes, but are experiencing delays.
State Street is also closed in that area, forcing the reroute of several bus lines.
