Heat Causes Buckling On Lake Shore Drive, Traffic Slowdowns
(CBS) -- For the second time in the last few weeks, hot weather caused pavement to buckle on Lake Shore Drive.
Monday, it happened during the afternoon rush hour, around 4:30 p.m. blocking lanes and causing long delays for hot and frustrated drivers.
Chicago has had six day this month with temperatures of more than 90 degrees. The average for June is just four.
That heat led to the pavement buckling on southbound Lake Shore Drive near 31st Street and on the northbound side near Oakwood. Less than two weeks ago, the pavement buckled in the heat on Lake Shore Drive near 46th Street.
The Chicago Department of Transportation says it responded quickly to today's problem to make repairs.

Chicago is not alone. The heat is attacking roads all over.
"There've been reports all the way from Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, the Dakotas, over to Colorado," Accuweather Meteorologist Brian Edwards tells WBBM. "It's been quite an issue, especially this summer."
