Off-Duty Sheriff's Deputy Shoots Two In Marquette Park
CHICAGO (CBS) -- An off-duty Cook County Sheriff's deputy shot two purported gang members Sunday night, after they allegedly shot at a car in Marquette Park.
Chicago police said the deputy was eating in his car around 8:40 p.m. when he saw two men arguing with people inside a car nearby in the 7000 block of South Kanst Drive. Then, he saw them pull out guns and fire into the car, police said.
The deputy got out of his car and identified himself as a police officer, and the two suspects allegedly turned around and pointed their guns at him. Police said that's when the deputy pulled out his gun and shot both of them.
The two suspects, ages 18 and 23, were taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn. They were listed in good condition Monday morning.
The officer was not wounded. The 44-year-old deputy has been with the Sheriff's office for 11 years, and is currently assigned to courthouse duty.
Charges were pending against the two suspects.
