Feces-Throwing Inmate Injures Three Cook County Jailers In Scuffle

(CBS) -- Three Cook County jail guards suffered minor injuries subduing an inmate at the Cook County Jail.

The inmate involved in the scuffle was 29-year-old Tacorey Killebrew, who's been jailed for two years on $800,000 bond while awaiting trial.

Cara Smith with the sheriff's department says Killebrew has been involved in more than 50 altercations since his arrest. In most of those incidents, Killebrew allegedly threw or attempted to throw feces or urine at officers and allegedly tried Tuesday at about 1:30 p.m., when returning from a court appearance.

Officers stepped in when they saw Killebrew with a container in hand. Smith said two correctional officers and a corrections sergeant sustained minor injuries subduing Killebrew.

A Chicago Fire Department spokesman said that two of the officers were transported to nearby St. Anthony Hospital for treatment. Smith said that Killebrew faces administrative discipline and may face felony battery charges.

The incident occurred days after Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart released surveillance video of four other County Jail inmates scuffling with correctional officers. Smith said the videos and Tuesday's incident illustrate the types of challenges guards face every day in performance of their duties.
