Recently Cut By White Sox, Mat Latos Signs Minor League Deal With Nationals
(CBS) After being designated for assignment and released by the White Sox earlier in June, right-hander Mat Latos has agreed to a minor league deal with the Nationals, he told 670 The Score's Bruce Levine.
The deal is pending a physical.
Latos got off to a brilliant start to the season, going 4-0 with a 0.74 ERA in his first four outings. It unraveled from there, as he allowed at least four runs in each of his next seven starts and compiled a 6.41 ERA in May. For the season, he's 6-2 with a 4.62 ERA and 1.46 WHIP.
Latos would appear to be insurance for the Nationals, who had top prospect Lucas Giolito debut in the big leagues Tuesday with a strong outing in a win against the Mets.
