Sources: Bears Claim Quarterback Connor Shaw

By Chris Emma--

(CBS) Connor Shaw is reuniting with his former quarterbacks coach in Chicago.

The Bears have claimed Shaw off waivers on Friday, multiple sources have confirmed. Shaw has since tweeted the news. He reunites with Bears offensive coordinator Dowell Loggains, who was his quarterbacks coach in Cleveland.

Shaw, 24, was waived by the Browns on Thursday. The Saints intended to claim Shaw off waivers but dispatched their notice to every NFL team while intending to notify the league office. The Bears were next in line and claimed Shaw.

Shaw was signed by the Browns as an undrafted free agent back in 2014. The South Carolina product started one game that season, going 14-for-28 for 177 yards and an interception. That marks his only career action.

This offseason, the Bears brought in another Loggains quarterback, Brian Hoyer, to serve as Jay Cutler's backup. Hoyer and Shaw played together in Cleveland back in 2014.

The Bears' depth chart at quarterback also includes undrafted rookie Dalyn Williams, who was signed after a tryout in rookie mini-camp. The Dartmouth product makes five quarterbacks in Chicago.

Training camp in Bourbonnais begins on July 28, with the Bears reporting to Olivet Nazarene one day prior.
