Fan Injured After Jumping From Wrigley Bleachers

CHICAGO (CBS) – A fan jumped from the Wrigley Field bleachers Thursday night and lay injured on the outfield warning track before he was carted off for emergency care.

The incident occurred around 7:30 p.m. as the Cubs-Braves game was delayed because of rain.

The Cubs said in a statement that the fan was "attempting to jump onto the field" from the bleachers. He lay face-down on the ground for several minutes in right-center field before he was braced for transport to the hospital and removed.

The man was taken by paramedics to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, the Cubs said. Information about his condition was not available.

The bleacher wall is about 11.5 feet tall, and there's a basket fixed along the top of the structure to catch fly balls.

Brett Lyons, a producer from 670 The Score, was there and said he's never seen anything like this.

"There were a lot of people in shock," Lyons told CBS 2's Jeremy Ross. "Everyone was trying to look around."

The Cubs and Braves eventually began the game following the rain delay.
