A Prayer For A Nation 'Reeling' From Dallas Police Ambush

LEMONT (CBS) -- In Lemont this afternoon, a short prayer service was held outside the police station, prompted by last night's Dallas police massacre.

Pastor Steve Meister of Emanuel Baptist Church prayed, "Our father we come before you … a nation that truly is reeling. There is so much unrest and so much violence and we continue to try to find peace."

About 30 police and community members stood outside the Lemont police department for about 15 minutes of Bible verse readings and prayers.

Lauren Hanson was at the service.

Her husband is a Lemont police officer, and she wanted to support him.

"It's just really hard sending him to work every day," she said. "You never know."

Pastor Meister prayed for God to keep police in Lemont safe and to make the village one of love that welcomes people of all nationalities and backgrounds.

Before the service, Lemont police lowered the American flag to half staff.
