One In Custody After Shots Fired At Police On Far South Side

Updated 07/10/16 - 5:46 p.m.

CHICAGO (CBS) -- One person was being questioned Sunday morning, after shots were fired at Chicago Police officers on the Far South Side.

The shots were fired at police at 3:38 a.m. when officers were responding to a report of gunfire in the 10300 block of South Avenue N, according to preliminary information from Chicago Police.

No one was struck in the shooting, police said.

The officers did not return fire.

After shooting at police, two suspects ran into two different homes and barricaded themselves inside.

Around 8 a.m., a SWAT team entered one home, but did not find a suspect. By 9 a.m., police had cleared the second home, and had taken one person into custody for questioning.

Several people on the block complained about how they were treated by police during the search for the suspects.

Judith Celio said she felt the blast of a flash bang grenade, and the pressure of a SWAT team to leave her home with her family.

A handful of people who live on the block were put into handcuffs and patted down after SWAT teams swarmed the block in search of the suspects.

"The whole SWAT team had surrounded our house. They had the barricade going up, and it just got out of hand," Celio said.

Celio said police believed one suspect ran into her home.

"I think it was a big mistake," she said. "I understand their job is hard. I do understand that their job is hard, but being a citizen is just as hard, because we're getting blamed for thigs that we don't do."

Giovanni Olzao said officers also kicked in his door and entered his house. He said police might have scoured through the home looking for a gun.

Police said they found weapons during their search, but Olzao said officers didn't find them at his home.

Chicago police said they could not comment on an ongoing investigation.
