Rep. Quigley Renews Call For Wrigley Protections After Attack In Nice

WBBM Political Editor Craig Dellimore

(CBS) -- North Side Congressman Michael Quigley says the truck massacre in Nice, France has prompted him to renew his calls for greater security around Wrigley Field and other places.

WBBM Political Editor Craig Dellimore reports.

The Chicago Democrat says the city should apply for federal funds to put up barricades and other protective measured around Wrigley Field and other potential targets of terrorism.

Actually, Quigley had proposed closing the streets around Wrigley on game days, but Mayor Emanuel rejected that idea.

Quigley says he understands that the community doesn't want streets blocked. But he says the events overseas suggest the city must do something.

An Emanuel spokesperson says the mayor outlined a number of security measures outside Wrigley, including wider sidewalks and protective bollards. He says they hope Quigley, who sits on the House appropriations committee, will help secure federal funding.
