Anthony Rizzo, Aroldis Chapman Have History: A Heated Exchange In July 2014

(CBS) Along with the Cubs' blockbuster acquisition of Aroldis Chapman from the Yankees on Monday comes this subplot: Chapman and team leader Anthony Rizzo have a history of confrontation.

Back on July 10, 2014 when he was still with the Reds, Chapman threw a pair of fastballs in the vicinity of then-Cubs outfielder Nate Schierholtz in the ninth inning of a tie game. After Chapman struck out Schierholtz, Rizzo started screaming obscenities from the top step of the dugout toward Chapman. After Chapman dismissively waved toward the Cubs dugout at the end of the inning, the benches cleared, with Rizzo leading the charge for the Cubs.

Here's the video.

There weren't punches thrown, and Rizzo has since cleared the issue up and been on good terms with several Reds players in the years that followed, the Tribune reported.
