Calmer Week Ahead After Damaging Storms Clear Out
CHICAGO (CBS) -- After a stormy weekend that saw flooding, downed trees, and even a CTA walkway canopy blown down onto the Blue Line tracks, Chicagoans can expect a much calmer stretch of weather through the middle of the week.
Two rounds of heavy storms drenched the Chicago area on Saturday, and another powerful storm on Sunday created havoc for the CTA, with service interrupted on three train lines due to debris on the tracks.
The aluminum canopy of a pedestrian bridge on the Blue Line was damaged Sunday night, falling on the tracks below, setting off an explosion of sparks. Service was interrupted for several hours before trains began running normally again Monday morning. Trains on the Red and Brown lines also were delayed after a tree fell on the tracks Sunday night near Armitage.
The Chicago area should get a good break from the storms to start the week, though, with lots of sunshine on Monday, and a high around 87.
That trend should continue Tuesday and Wednesday, with mostly sunny conditions, and highs in the upper 80s.
Temperatures will be a bit milder on Thursday and Friday, with highs in the low 80s, and chances for rain both days.
