Cubs, White Sox Fans Mix It Up At 'Crosstown Classic'

(CBS) -- The Crosstown Classic got underway Monday night at U.S. Cellular Field.

The stadium's parking lots were a sea of blue, red, black and white before the opener of the annual Cubs-White Sox rendezvous got underway, with fans of both the North and South Siders making it clear which side they're on.

TJ Arnold says he enjoys invading White Sox territory in his Cubbie blue.

"This is obviously the cheaper ticket because nobody comes to this venue," Arnold says. "Crosstown, it's good to represent and see more blue than black and white in their own stadium."

But White Sox fan Josiah McFadden says he has one simple rebuttal to Cubs fans barbs: the South Siders' 2005 World Series championship.

"2005, I'm just going to keep saying that, I don't care what's going on this season or last season or the season before, 2005 happened," he says.

It's not all negativity and animosity between North and South Side fans. Cubs fan Tad Fifer says everyone should just get along.

"I'd love to see both teams do well," Fifer says. "I just grew up watching the Cubs, so that makes me a Cubs fan. I root for the Sox as well."

While McFadden agrees, he doubts fans will be buddy-buddy with one another while the teams battle it out.

"There's going to be plenty of fights because the White Sox fans are angry," he says. "Anger and joy coming together, that's nothing but danger."
