Long Returns To Bears Practice, While Jeffery, Trevathan Depart Early

By Chris Emma--

BOURBONNAIS, Ill. (CBS) -- For the Bears on the injury front, Wednesday saw one step forward and two steps back.

A week removed from a calf strain, three-time Pro Bowl guard Kyle Long returned to practice in a limited fashion. However, receiver Alshon Jeffery left with what coach John Fox termed as "muscle tightness," and linebacker Danny Trevathan departed with an ailment to his knee.

Neither Jeffery nor Trevathan returned to action Wednesday, though both were moving fine on the sidelines at the conclusion of practice.

Jeffery walked off the field under his own power with one trainer alongside, disappearing to a side tent for several minutes before returning to his sideline. Trevathan walked off the field gingerly and had his right leg stretched out by a team trainer.

The return of Long came just a few days after an MRI confirmed it was just a minor strain to his right calf, with no severe damage. Long's reps in practice were limited, and his status on Thursday morning will determine the extent of his work the rest of the week.

Ever since Long's injury, the Bears have been cautious in working him back. The injury occurred with Long chasing after Trevathan during Day 1 drills.

Long pointed to his pre-practice preparation as not good enough to prevent injury.

"I just got to be more careful warming up and getting myself ready," Long said. "I got to be better as a professional."

The Bears' injury report remains long. Receiver Eddie Royal and tight end Zach Miller remained out with their concussions, while tight end Ben Braunecker (ankle), linebacker Nick Kwiatkoski (hamstring) and defensive back Brandon Boykin (pectoral strain) all sat out too.

Day 7 of Bears training camp comes Thursday morning at Olivet Nazarene.
