White Sox Place Avisail Garcia On 15-Day DL

(CBS) The White Sox have placed outfielder Avisail Garcia on the 15-day disabled list with a sprained right knee, they announced Tuesday.

The move is retroactive to Sunday. In Garcia's place, Chicago called up outfielder Jason Coats from Triple-A Charlotte.

The 25-year-old Garcia is hitting .240 with nine homers and 36 RBIs in 86 games for the White Sox this season. Most of his starts (58 of 80) have come as the team's designated hitter.

The 26-year-old Coats is 2-for-22 (.091) in limited playing time for the White Sox in two stints this season, which included his MLB debut on June 4. He was hitting .329 with eight homers, 29 RBIs and a .902 OPS in 65 games at Triple-A.

Chicago plays at Kansas City on Tuesday evening.
