Convicted Felon Charged With Firing Shots In Elgin

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A convicted felon has been charged with firing gunshots Tuesday afternoon in northwest suburban Elgin.

Alejandro Haro, 28, was charged with aggravated discharge of a firearm at an occupied vehicle within 1,000 feet of a school, aggravated discharge of a firearm at an occupied vehicle, unlawful use of a weapon by a felon, providing false information for an FOID, and firearm owners identification card required, all felonies, according to a statement from Elgin police.

About 4:15 p.m. Tuesday, officers responded to shots fired in the 300 block of Illinois Avenue and found evidence of gunfire, but no victim, police said. A residence had been struck by bullets.

Haro, who lives on the same block, was arrested and a handgun was recovered, according to police.

Police said he had provided false information to Illinois State Police, which enabled him to obtain a Firearm Owners Identification Card, despite the fact that he is a convicted felon. He was able to purchase numerous firearms with the FOID card.
