Couple Arrested After Robbing Multiple Suburban Auto Parts Stores

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A married couple was arrested Sunday after robbing an auto parts store in Hazel Crest.

23-year-old Joseph Crawford and his wife 26-year-old Jordan Coley are being held on armed robbery charges and suspected in a string of suburban robberies, WBBM's Steve Miller reports.

Authorities said the couple's M.O. was the same in the string of robberies: They robbed auto parts stores at gunpoint, either at opening or closing time.

Crawford wore the same hoodie, police said. He was the robber and his wife, Coley drove the getaway car.

Hazel Crest Police Detective Reginald Cotton said the couple had two children at home, a one-year-old and a 5-month-old.

"They're two kids themselves, I think," Cotton said. "I'm not much older, but at 23 and 26, you've got your whole life ahead of you. You really do."

In the robbery that ended in arrest on Sunday, an employee who'd been tied up managed to break free and give police a description of the getaway car.

"It's very unfortunate," Cotton said. "But they made some very, very bad decisions. It really sucks if they felt this was their only option at the time. Other than that, we've got to do our job to continue to keep our village safe."
