Cubs Fire DJ Who Played 'Irresponsible' Song After Aroldis Chapman's Appearance

(CBS) The Cubs have fired the DJ who played an inappropriate song Sunday night after an appearance by closer Aroldis Chapman in a loss to the Cardinals at Wrigley Field.

A song by The Prodigy that makes light of domestic violence and contains explicit language was played in the ninth inning Sunday after Chapman walked off the mound. While with the Yankees, Chapman served a 30-game suspension to start the season for violating MLB's domestic violence policy. He was accused of hitting and choking his girlfriend in an incident last October. He wasn't charged in the case.

"We apologize for the irresponsible music selection during our game last night," Cubs president of business operations Crane Kenney said in a statement. "The selection of this track showed a lack of judgment and sensitivity to an important issue. We have terminated our relationship with the employee responsible for making the selection and will be implementing stronger controls to review and approve music before public broadcast during our games."

The song choice immediately drew intense criticism on social media.
