Distance Swimmer Forced To Halt Lake Michigan Swim

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A Chesterton, Ind., man who tried to set a world record by swimming across Lake Michigan and back has fallen short of his goal.

Scott Wolford set out on the 120-mile swim on Thursday morning but had to stop last night because of storms and high waves.

Wolford posted on his website that he spent almost 15 hours in the water yesterday before giving up around 8 p.m.

The weather slowed his progress from his planned two miles an hour, to only about one mile.
