Police Swarm South Suburban Home Looking For Burglary Suspects

(CBS) – Two burglary suspects were at large after a SWAT team response in Park Forest that lasted several hours Monday.

The eight-hour ordeal took place in the 100 block of Hemlock Street and ended about 8:30 p.m. Park Forest police and members of the South Suburban Emergency SWAT Team engaged in what they thought was a standoff with armed burglary suspects.

The potential barricade was set in motion earlier Monday when police learned of a burglary. A caller told police the suspects ran to another home in a nearby court.

Police say they tried to make contact with people inside that second location.

"Because of the potential of a firearm, we thought it better to have a SWAT team on scene," Deputy Chief Christopher Mannino tells CBS 2's Dana Kozlov.

Police say they found stolen items inside the house. They had little information about the suspects they were looking for.
