Bears Nab CB K'Waun Williams Off Waivers From Browns

By Chris Emma--

(CBS) A day after being waived by the Browns, cornerback K'Waun Williams has been claimed by the Bears.

The 25-year-old Williams was available after a weird saga that brought his time to an end in Cleveland. Williams had been suspended two weeks by the Browns after refusing to play against the Packers on Aug. 12 because he was seeking a second and third opinion from independent doctors for an ankle injury, Cleveland.com reported.

The Browns' contention was that Williams didn't communicate the specifics about his ankle injury to them and when he did it only came after he also told them he was retiring, Cleveland.com reported. His addition to the Bears is contingent upon him passing a physical, which requires proof of health for his ankle injuries.

To make room on the 75-man roster, the Bears waived cornerback Kevin Peterson.

Williams is a third-year pro who attended Pittsburgh. He played in 13 games for the Browns last season, starting six and making 30 tackles. Williams could fill the slot corner role for the Bears.

Chicago is dealing with a host of injury issues at cornerback, as Kyle Fuller (knee), Tracy Porter (concussion) and Bryce Callahan (hamstring) have been hobbled in the preseason.

The Bears wrap up the preseason on Thursday in Cleveland when they battle the Browns. Their final rosters will be set at 53 by 3 p.m. CT on Saturday.
