Jed Hoyer Politely Explains Why The Cubs Didn't Attend Tim Tebow's Showcase

(CBS) The Cubs were one of two MLB teams that didn't attend former college football star Tim Tebow's baseball showcase Tuesday in the Los Angeles area, according to Fox Sports' Ken Rosenthal, with the Athletics being the other.

On Wednesday after, general manager Jed Hoyer politely explained why the Cubs weren't represented by any of their scouts. He cited "manpower," though logic also suggests the young, up-and-coming Cubs don't need the 29-year-old Tebow at any point in the future.

"We made a decision based on our manpower and what we're trying to get done right now that it wasn't worth pulling someone off their coverage," Hoyer said in an interview with Dan Bernstein and Laurence Holmes on 670 The Score. "It was just our decision. It's nothing against Tim Tebow. It's a guy who's an incredible college football player, but we felt like given what we're doing, the right thing to do right now was to keep our guys on their coverage.

"I don't regret making that decision. I think it was the right decision for us."
