Cubs Reveal Details For Chance To Purchase Single-Game Postseason Tickets

(CBS) Fans wishing to purchase single-game tickets to Cubs postseason contests at Wrigley Field will need to do so by registering for a random drawing that gives them the opportunity to buy tickets.

Registration opened Wednesday morning at www.cubs.com/postseason and runs through Sept. 21 at noon. The initial registration is for the NL wild-card game and NLDS, though with their 15.5-game lead and 24 contests left in the season, the Cubs will surely start their playoff journey in the best-of-five NLDS, for which Game 1 is set for Oct. 7.

Fans will be notified via email if they've been selected to purchase tickets. If so, there will be a one-time chance to purchase a maximum of four tickets to the playoff game at Wrigley Field, pending availability. Tickets will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. Being selected in a drawing doesn't guarantee the chance to purchase tickets. The number of single-game postseason tickets available is limited and depends on the allocations to Cubs season-ticket holders and other partners.

"With so much excitement surrounding this year's team, demand will certainly exceed the limited number of tickets we have available for postseason play at Wrigley Field," Cubs senior vice president of sales and marketing Colin Faulkner said in a statement. "Like last year, we once again wanted to provide a fair process to give access to these tickets. Nearly 1.2 million people registered for the purchase opportunity last year, so we encourage fans to register early and purchase quickly if their name is selected."

Cut-off times for drawings to additional postseason will be announced as the playoffs unfold.
