Report: Vehicle Used In Robbery Of CPD Officer Recovered

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A man was facing weapons charges Tuesday night after he was stopped on the Near North Side while driving a vehicle used in the robbery of an off-duty Chicago Police officer last week, the Sun-Times reported.

Officers stopped a vehicle about 11:30 p.m. in the 1400 block of North Halsted and took an 18-year-old man into custody for possession of a weapon, according to Chicago Police.

A police source told the Sun-Times the vehicle was the same black Ford Fusion sought in connection with the armed robbery of an off-duty officer Saturday night in the Lake View neighborhood.

Police issued an "All Call" radio alert, advising officers to be on the lookout for the car. A vehicle matching the broadcast's description could be seen at the scene of the arrest.

About 9:25 p.m. Saturday, three gunmen robbed an off-duty cop of personal belongings, including his gun and badge, while he was with a companion in the 3100 block of North Ravenswood, police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said at the time.

Chicago Police would not immediately say whether the 18-year-old man was a suspect in Saturday's robbery, citing an ongoing investigation. Weapons charges were pending against him early Wednesday.
