Possible Camera Found In Restroom At Near North Side School

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Chicago police were investigating a disturbing discovery inside a restroom at a Near North Side school.

In a letter to parents, Ogden International School principal Michael Beyer said a plastic camera-type device was found in one of the faculty bathrooms at the Walton Street campus.

The school called police about the device, and conducted a full sweep of the campus, as well as the other Ogden International campus on the West Side, and found no other devices.

"This device is not designed to send information, so we are confident that no images were transmitted by the device," Beyer wrote.

Chicago police confirmed they were investigating.

Beyer urged parents with questions about the situation to contact the school.

"We do not want this incident to cast a cloud over the wonderful start to our new year and want to assure everyone that we are taking all necessary steps to work with CPD and the Office of Safety and Security. We have been assured that CPD will drive the investigation to closure and we will take every necessary precaution to prevent this from ever happening again," he wrote.

Some parents complained they did not receive the principal's letter. They hadn't signed up for this year's school emails, but said every parent should have been notified regardless.
