Man Dies After Shooting Woman In Brainerd

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A 73-year-old man shot his neighbor, then became unconscious at the scene and died Friday evening in the Brainerd neighborhood on the South Side, police said.

About 6 p.m., Charles Norris got into an argument with the 28-year-old woman living next door in the 9000 block of South Marshfield, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner's office.

The woman threw a brick at Norris' house, damaging his window, and he grabbed a gun and opened fire, authorities said. She was shot in the right leg and taken in good condition to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.

Norris had a medical emergency at the scene and became unconscious, authorities said.

He was also taken to Christ Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 6:58 p.m., the medical examiner's office said. An autopsy Saturday did not ruled on his cause or manner of death, with results pending further studies.

As of early Monday, the woman was not charged in connection with the man's death, police said.
