Woman Shot To Death At Vigil For Man Slain Day Earlier

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A woman was shot to death Sunday night at a vigil on the same Brainerd neighborhood block where a man was killed a day earlier on the South Side, officials said.

The 18-year-old was among three people shot at 8:07 p.m. in the 8900 block of South Justine, and she was pronounced dead at Little Company of Mary Hospital in Evergreen Park, according to Chicago Police. The Cook County medical examiner's office did not immediately confirm the death.

Two men wounded in the shooting were taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn in serious-to-critical condition, fire officials said. Additional details were not immediately available.

The three had been at a vigil for a 23-year-old man who had been shot outside his home on the block a day earlier, according to Chicago Fire Department Cmdr. Frank Velez.

About 5:20 p.m. Saturday, two people walked up to Nahmar T. Holmes and shot him repeatedly in the torso, authorities said. He died at South Shore Hospital 19 minutes later. Police said that shooting was likely gang-related.
