Hazel Crest Doctor Denied Bail After Exposing Himself To A Patient

CHICAGO (CBS) – Hazel Crest Police arrested Monday a suburban doctor at his office, 17680 S. Kedzie, Hazel Crest, for violating the trust of a patient, and now faces battery and indecent exposure charges.

“If it’s true, you know, it’s one of those ultimate betrayals,” Chief Mitchell Davis of the Hazel Crest Police Department said.

75-year-old Doctor Sheldon Levine was accused of exposing himself to a 51-year-old female patient and inappropriately touching her during an exam. Dr. Levine also alleged to have tried to stop the victim from leaving and allegedly asked her not to report his actions to police, CBS 2’s Mai Martinez reports.

The patient “said he advised her something along the lines that she needed to be aroused for him to do a proper examination, and that’s why he was doing some of the things she was doing,”  Davis said.

The two incidents happened at Dr. Levine’s Hazel Crest practice located in a medical building on South Kedzie Avenue. The most recent incident allegedly happened last Thursday.

When the patient tried to leave, Dr. Levine tried to stop her by grabbing her by the arm and asking her not to tell anyone about the incident, Davis said.

Levine has been charged with two misdemeanors, battery and public indecency, Hazel Crest Police said.

When trying to reach out to Dr. Levine at his home, CBS 2 spoke with his wife, who said she did not want to say anything about the allegations.

A complaint was filed in February 2016 at the Hazel Crest Police Department by a 23-year old female alleging aggressive sexual behavior during an exam. Initially she insisted on pressing charges, and later chose not to proceed.

Dr. Levine will appear in Markahm Courthouse on Oct. 31. He posted bond and was released from custody. Dr. Levine is listed as a Family Practice doctor. Currently, the incidents are merely considered allegations, so Dr. Levine is still free to practice. He’s innocent until proven guilty and can carry on as normal.

With two alleged victims this year, police are concerned there could be more. The Hazel Crest Police Department is asking if anyone else has had similar encounters with Dr. Levine, to call the detective division at 708-355-9640.
