Odd Items Dumped In A Prescription Pill Drop Box
CHICAGO (CBS) – Odd items are being dumped in a Kane County drop box designed for disposal of leftover pills.
The drop box, designed as a place for people to properly dispose of leftover prescription drugs, has been in the lobby of the Kane County Sheriff's office for about five years, WBBM's Steve Miller reports.

There is a sign on the box that says what is acceptable and what is not, said Lieutenant Patrick Gengler, but recently the office has received some odd items.
"In this past week when we went in there to empty the box, I have no idea what was in this bag that was in the box, said Lt. Gengler. "But it wasn't pills. And I'm not even sure what food it may have originally been when it was put into the box. But it sure wasn't something that was meant to be put in that box. I think it was supposed to go into a garbage can."
Gengler said the offer also found a diamond ring in the box and were able to track down the owner to return it.
"Somebody had passed away," Lt. Gengler said. "They got rid of the meds. They didn't realize their loved one's ring was in there."
Lieutenant Gengler said because they're also seeing so many sharp needles dumped in the box, which do not belong, the Kane County Sheriff's office is considering adding a drop box for needles.
