1 Killed, 6 Wounded In Tuesday Shootings Across Chicago

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A man was killed and at least six other people were wounded in shootings Tuesday across Chicago.

The 29-year-old man was shot to death shortly before 3 a.m. on the Near West Side.

Eddie Huff was sitting in a vehicle at a stop light in the 200 block of South Western when another male walked up and fired shots into the vehicle, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner's office.

Huff was shot in the abdomen and taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 3:45 a.m., authorities said. He lived in the 7300 block of South Winchester.

Most recently, a 26-year-old man was shot in the East Chatham neighborhood on the South Side. He was riding a bicycle about 8:20 p.m. in the 8000 block of South Ellis when another male fired shots in his direction, striking him in the left ankle, police said. He was taken to Jackson Park Hospital, where his condition was stabilized. A police source said the man is a documented gang member.

Earlier Tuesday afternoon, two men were shot in the Washington Park neighborhood on the South Side. About 3:45 p.m., they were walking in the 5700 block of South Prairie when they heard gunshots and felt pain, police said. One man, 44, was shot in the right arm and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital. The other man, 18, was shot in the right leg and was driven by an acquaintance to the University of Chicago Medical Center. Their conditions were stabilized.

Less than an hour earlier, a 55-year-old man was shot while working on his vehicle in the Humboldt Park neighborhood on the West Side. A dark-colored car pulled up to the man about 2:50 p.m. in the 1400 block of North Homan and someone inside opened fire, hitting him in the left arm, police said. He was taken in good condition to Norwegian American Hospital. Police said he has documented gang ties.

More than 12 hours earlier, a 40-year-old man was shot during a party in the Austin neighborhood on the West Side. At 2:27 a.m., the 40-year-old man was at a family party in the 1300 block of North Waller when he got into an argument with another person, who then pulled out a revolver and fired two shots, police said. The man suffered a graze wound to the head and refused medical attention.

Tuesday's first shooting happened at 2:24 a.m. in the Back of the Yards neighborhood on the South Side. A 23-year-old woman was sitting in a vehicle in the 5300 block of South Laflin when someone rode up on a bicycle and fired shots into the vehicle, police said. She suffered gunshot wounds to the arm and leg and later showed up at Provident Hospital, where her condition was stabilized. A police source said the woman is a documented gang member.
