Man Shot On Dan Ryan Expressway Ramp

Updated 2:06 p.m., Sept. 24, 2016

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Police have confirmed that a man was wounded in a shooting Saturday morning on a Dan Ryan Expressway ramp on the South Side.

The man, who is in his mid-20s, was the front-seat passenger in a vehicle on the ramp from southbound I-94 to southbound I-55 at 5:12 a.m. when a second vehicle pulled up next to it on the driver's side, according to Illinois State Police.

The front-seat passenger of the second vehicle flashed gang signs intended to disrespect a Chicago gang before firing three shots into the victim's vehicle, one of which struck the man in the face. The shooter's vehicle then drove away.

The driver took the man to MacNeal Hospital in Berwyn in critical condition, police said. He has since been stabilized.

Police said the driver of the victim's vehicle is a documented gang member and the shooting appeared to be a targeted, gang-related attack.

Police searched the expressway area from 18th Street to I-55 and no evidence was found early Saturday morning. State police closed two lanes of the southbound Dan Ryan near 18th Street, and the ramp leading to outbound I-55, at about 7:30 a.m., while officers investigated.

Police reopened southbound lanes around 8:30 a.m.
