Bears Running Back Jeremy Langford Suffered Ankle Sprain

By Chris Emma--

(CBS) Bears running back Jeremy Langford was carted off in the third quarter Sunday night with what's now being ruled as a sprain of his right ankle.

Sunday brought fears that Langford may have suffered an Achillies injury, but the Bears ruled that out with an MRI on Monday. Coach John Fox didn't provide an update to Langford's timetable for a recovery as he met with reporters at Halas Hall to discuss his team's 31-17 loss to the Cowboys.

With Langford sidelined after just three carries on Sunday, rookie Jordan Howard assumed the role at running back. Backup Ka'Deem Carey remains sidelined with a hamstring injury, meaning Raheem Mostert -- signed to the team just last Tuesday -- is the backup to Howard.

Bears guard Kyle Long spoke after the loss about Howard's ability to hit the hole.

"Jordan's a heck of a young player," Long said.

Fox also stated that quarterback Jay Cutler is day-to-day as he recovers from a thumb sprain suffered last Monday. His status will be evaluated throughout the week, though it's possible that he could be ready for a return Sunday against the Lions.

Following Tuesday's off time, the Bears return to work Wednesday and begin preparations for the Lions as they look to dig out of an 0-3 hole for a second straight season.
