Bears' Mathematical Playoff Odds Have Gotten So, So Sad
(CBS) The Bears are off to an 0-3 start for the second consecutive year. At no time in their storied franchise history have the Bears ever rallied even from an 0-2 start to make the playoffs.
Which means this -- combined with the eye test that you've conducted yourself in September -- comes as no surprise: The Bears' mathematical playoff odds are so, so sad.
Chicago has a 3 percent chance of making the playoffs, according to FiveThirtyEight.com. That's a decrease from 7 percent at this time last week, with the odds stumbling after the Bears' loss to the Cowboys on Sunday. Only the Browns (0-3) have a lesser mathematical chance of making the playoffs, with their checking in at 1 percent.
Chicago's chances of winning the NFC North title dropped from 3 percent to less than 1 percent with its latest loss.
Fivethirtyeight's Elo rating model pegs the Bears as the fourth-worst team in the NFL, ahead of only the Browns, Jaguars and Titans.
