Colorful Chicago Fun Run Has Yet To Materialize For People Who Paid Fees

(CBS) -- Scam alert: A suburban woman says she's been had by the organizers of a 5K run – with the event being cancelled just days before it was scheduled.

This isn't the first time, CBS 2's Charlie De Mar reports.

Five-K runs like the ones organized by Color BUZZ offer an experience along with some exercise.

"You get your T-shirt all covered in this powder and you look like a mess afterward, but it's really, really a lot of fun," Chiarra Robinette says.

But for her, her sister and her mom, they were disappointed. The Arizona-based company pulled the plug just days before the August race. It has not been rescheduled.

"This isn't OK. You can't just take money from people," Robinette says.

Color BUZZ holds and F rating with the Better Business Bureau. In June, it was the same story: cancelling a race last minute. Both runs were supposed to be held at the Chicagoland Speedway in Joliet.

Robinette started a Facebook group, hoping to hear from others who also feel the Color BUZZ organizers ran away with their green.

She finally received an email from the company, she says, after CBS 2 began making inquiries.

She's still waiting for her $20.

"I would have rather just ran the race then go through all of this," she says.

CBS 2 has not heard back from the race organizers.
