Cubs Tab Kyle Hendricks To Start Game 2 Against Dodgers

(CBS) The Cubs will start right-hander Kyle Hendricks in Game 2 of the National League Championship Series against the Dodgers on Sunday at Wrigley Field, manager Joe Maddon announced Friday.

There was some question to when Hendricks would get the call in the NLCS after he suffered a contusion in taking a liner off this throwing arm last Saturday, but he has recovered well, manager Joe Maddon said. Hendricks allowed two runs in 3 2/3 innings against the Giants in Game 2 of the NLDS before exiting.

Maddon confirmed that the Cubs' rotation will be Jon Lester in Game 1, followed by Hendricks, Jake Arrieta and John Lackey.

Part of the thinking in throwing Hendricks in Game 2 of these series has been to get him a home start, as he posted a 1.32 ERA at Wrigley Field in the regular season.

Hendricks started once against the Dodgers this season, earning a win in recording eight innings of two-run ball. He struck out six, walked one and allowed three hits.

The left-hander Lester will start Game 1 on Saturday, opposed by Dodgers right-hander Kenta Maeda. Los Angeles hasn't announced its Game 2 starter yet.
