Bears Are So Bad That We Can Only Say With Certainty That The Browns Are Worse

(CBS) Statistically speaking, we knew several weeks ago these Bears almost assuredly weren't going to make the playoffs, for those odds turned south quickly in this 2016 season.

That's only become more evident lately, as Chicago has fallen to 1-5, but we must ask: How bad is it? How hapless are these Bears?

Well, only the sad sack, winless Cleveland Browns are demonstrably worse. The Bears rank as the fourth-worst team in the NFL, per FiveThirtyEight's model, but they're barely ahead of the Jaguars -- who they lost to at home Sunday, for good measure -- and the Titans.

In all likelihood, it's only going to get worse for Chicago in the coming week. The Bears only have a 19 percent chance of beating the Packers (3-2) on Thursday night at Lambeau Field, per FiveThirtyEight, and a matchup with the top-ranked Vikings, the league's lone unbeaten team, awaits in Week 8. So Bears fans, brace yourself for 1-7.

As it sits, the Bears are one of three teams, along with the Browns and 49ers, that have a less than 1 percent chance of making the postseason, per FiveThirtyEight. Chicago's updated wins projection now sits at 4.4, suggesting a 4-12 or 5-11 season when it's all said and done.
