Wrigley's 'The Pink Hat Guy' Has A Lot Invested In Saturday's NLCS Game
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Millions of people will be cheering for the Chicago Cubs on Saturday, including "The Pink Hat Guy."
He has been a fixture at Wrigley Field for decades, always sitting right behind home plate.
CBS 2's Mai Martinez talks with Jim Anixter.
Not surprisingly, he's been Cubs fan for his entire life. He says it would be a dream come true if his Cubbies could win the pennant and head to the World Series on Saturday. To do so, they'll need to get by Clayton Kershaw and the Dodgers in Game 6 of the National League Championship Series.
Anixter's love of the team has turned his north suburban office into a Cubs shrine, complete with bricks and ivy and even a replica Wrigley. He also has an original turnstile and an original "on deck" circle stepped on by the likes of Cubs legends Ernie Banks and Billy Williams.
"Wrigley field's like home," he says. "It's my second home."
A season-ticket holder since 1967, Anixter has seen the team's highs, such as Mr. Cub's 500th homerun.
He's witnessed their lows.
"So what if a team as a bad century?" Anixter says.
Nothing compares to this magical season, he says, and the Cubs' chance to punch their ticket to the World Series on Saturday, when he turns 72.
"They win the pennant on my birthday it would be the greatest birthday present ever," he says.
Martinez profiled Anixter last year as the Cubs progressed in the postseason. Among the questions she answered then: Why does he wear the pink hat?
