Controversy Over Cleveland Indians' Logo Rages Anew

(CBS) – Not everybody is celebrating in Cleveland on the eve of the World Series between the Chicago Cubs and the Cleveland Indians.

Some Native Americans say the Indians' cartoonish logo, "Chief Wahoo," is offensive to them and should be removed.

"I can't find any peace about this. You know, our people were decapitated and skinned alive, and to see this disembodied head is a reminder of that. It's a sad reminder of the atrocities that took place," says Philip Yenyo, executive director of the American Indian Movement of Ohio.

Some longtime Indians fans say they don't mean to offend anyone, but the logo is part of the fabric of the Indians franchise.

"I empathize with Native Americans, I can understand it, but this is part of the team, this is part of Cleveland," says fan Peggy Mitchell, who says her love of the team goes back to 1956.

She is such a huge Indians fan she has a tattoo of Chief Wahoo on her leg.

As for the Indians organization, it has made an effort to more prominently display red "C" logos, rather than the chief.
