Orland Park Village Hall Shows Cubs Support
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Southwest suburban Orland Park may be mostly White Sox territory, with its mayor being a lifelong White Sox fan, but Orland Park is feeling the Cubs love this week.
In the lobby of the Orland Park village hall is a big poster board with a Cubs logo and "Go Cubs Go" on it. Red and blue Cubs balloons float nearby and small Cubs pennants hang between two pillars.
Through Thursday morning, anyone can stop by and offer their well wishes and sign the board for the Cubs, WBBM's Bernie Tafoya reports.
JoAnn McGowan signed it Wednesday morning. She says she's been a Cubs fan her whole life.
"I even did the 1969 scrapbook with the Daily News," McGowan said.
As further proof of how much the Cubs mean to McGowan, she said the team was in the 1984 playoffs during her wedding reception and she kept track of the game by placing a small radio on the head reception table.
Assistant village manager and Cubs fan Joe LaMargo said that, when the Cubs win the World Series in the next week, "and I'm being very optimistic, I'm going to hoist the W flag over the village hall and also one in the lobby here."
The Cubs card will be delivered to Wrigley Field Thursday afternoon. LaMargo said the card will let the Cubs know that, in Orland Park, "there's Cubs fans out here on the Southwest Side of Chicago."
Orland Park has done similar things for the White Sox and Blackhawks during their championship runs.
