CTA Historic Cubs Train To Run For Home World Series Games
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Fans taking the CTA Red Line to World Series games at Wrigley Field may be lucky enough to board a piece of Chicago history.
CTA will operate this weekend its "World Series Special" 2400-series train, which was built in the late 1970s, for Games 3, 4, and 5 of the World Series leading up to the first pitch on the Red Line.
The train will run Friday before the game's start, one round-trip from Howard to 95th/Dan Ryan and back to Howard, making all regular stops. The train will also make the same trip for Saturday and Sunday games.
The train, restored inside and out, features its original 1976 American Bicentennial exterior markings of bold red, white and blue stripes. The interior displays a collection of reprinted advertisements from that era.
The exterior of the train cars are decorated with Chicago Cubs posters celebrating their historic season, as well as featured slogans from the legendary Chicago sportscasters Harry Caray and Jack Brickhouse.
The historic 2400-series train is apart of CTA's Heritage Fleet, a new program announced in June to preserve historic rail cars, buses and more.
The first pitch for Friday and Saturday games is 7:08 p.m. and Sunday's first pitch is scheduled for 7:15 p.m.
The train is set to depart Friday from Howard to 95th/Dan Ryan at approx. 3:45pm. and will depart from 95th/Dan Ryan to Howard at approx. 4:50pm. These times are approximate and subject to change.
The Chicago Transit Authority will provide extra rail and bus service for the Chicago Cubs World Series home games.
