Cubs Arrive Home, Rest And Prepare Before Game 3

CHICAGO (CBS) – The Cubs arrived early Thursday back in Chicago after Game 2 win over the Indians the night before, ready for some rest and preparation before Friday's Game 3.

The weather was cold and damp, similar to the conditions they played in Wednesday night in Cleveland in a 5-1 win that evened the World Series at 1-1.

Kris Bryant kept his hoodie on, and manager Joe Maddon was seen wearing a winter hat. Jake Arrieta carried his sleepy child out to the car. Anthony Rizzo and Jon Lester both had their arms full of boxes.

Kyle Schwarber went straight to his car. All are wondering on whether he will play Friday in the outfield. Maddon said it depends on what the doctors say.

"Obviously he looks good, running bases," Maddon said. "I talked to him before bat. Good to go, in terms of running, watching him does not show he is inhibited."

"We'll see," Schwaber said. "Have not tried it, take it day by day ... This is the moment we live for when we were kids. Play in the World Series. Took small step today, long way to go."

The Cubs will hold a workout Thursday afternoon ahead of Friday night's game, which will be the first World Series contest Wrigley Field has hosted since 1945.

The Game 3 pitching matchup will be Cubs right-hander Kyle Hendricks against Indians right-hander Josh Tomlin. Hendricks was incredible in the Game 6 clincher against the Dodgers last Saturday, throwing 7 1/3 shutout innings of two-hit ball. He will have had five full days of rest by Friday's game.
