Former Court Clerk's Employee Pleads Guilty To Stealing Money

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A former employee of the Kane County circuit court clerk's office has pleaded guilty to stealing money from the office.

Kelli D. Brackett, 40, agreed Friday to a sentence of 2 1/2 years of probation in exchange for a guilty plea to a felony count of official misconduct, according to a statement from the Kane County state's attorney's office.

Between Sept. 1, 2014, and Aug. 31, 2015, Brackett stole $955 from the clerk's office, prosecutors said. She was responsible for the money as part of her job, and prosecutors said she altered records in an attempt to cover up the theft.

As part of her plea deal, Brackett must pay $955 to the court clerk's office and complete 300 hours of community service, prosecutors said. She is also prohibited from being employed "in a position of public trust" for the duration of her probation.
