Two Hurt When Metra Train Strikes Vehicle On South Side
CHICAGO (CBS) -- A man and woman in their 70s were hurt Tuesday when their vehicle was struck by a Metra train in the South Shore neighborhood.
The 2000 Chrysler Sebring was northbound on Stony Island when it was was struck by Metra Electric Train No. 319 near 71st and Constance about 11:45 a.m., according to Chicago Police and Metra officials. The car became partially stuck on the tracks.
The 76-year-old woman driving the Sebring and and her passenger, a 79-year-old man, were both taken in good condition to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, police said.
The cause of the crash remains unknown, police said. No tickets have been issued.
Metra Electric District trains were running normally again as of Tuesday afternoon.
