Cubs' Bryant Is MVP Finalist; Hendricks, Lester Are Cy Young Finalists

(CBS) As expected, a host of Cubs are up for postseason awards after a 103-win regular season was followed by a historic World Series championship.

Third baseman Kris Bryant has been named a National League MVP finalist, while right-hander Kyle Hendricks and left-hander Jon Lester have been tabbed NL Cy Young finalists. Additionally, Joe Maddon is up for NL Manager of the Year.

Bryant hit .292 with 39 homers (third-best in the NL) and 102 RBIs. His 121 runs led the NL, and his .939 OPS was fourth. He also led the NL in WAR. Bryant was the NL Rookie of the Year award in 2015.

Dodgers shortstop Corey Seager and Nationals second baseman Daniel Murphy were the other NL MVP finalists.

Hendricks was the MLB ERA champion with a 2.13 mark. He also sported a 16-8 record and 0.98 WHIP. Lester went 19-5 with a 2.44 ERA, which was second in baseball to Hendricks, and a 1.02 WHIP.

Nationals right-hander Max Scherzer is the other Cy Young finalist. He went 20-7 with a 2.96 ERA and 0.97 WHIP. He also led NL pitchers in WAR. The NL Cy Young winner will be announced Nov. 16.

Maddon won the NL Manager of the Year award in 2015, his debut season in Chicago. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts and Nationals manager Dusty Baker are the other two finalists.
