Cubs' Anthony Rizzo, Jake Arrieta Win Silver Sluggers

(CBS) The awards continue to roll in for the Cubs.

First baseman Anthony Rizzo and pitcher Jake Arrieta have won Silver Sluggers in the National League. The awards are given annually to the best-hitting players at each respective position in both leagues.

It's the first time Rizzo and Arrieta have won such honors, and they're now two of 10 players in franchise history to do so. The last was third baseman Aramis Ramirez in 2011.

Rizzo hit .292 with 32 homers, 109 RBIs, a .544 slugging percentage, a .385 on-base percentage and .928 OPS.

Arrieta hit .262 with two homers and seven RBIs. He had a .415 slugging percentage and .304 on-base percentage. He joins Carlos Zambrano, a three-time winner, as Cubs pitchers to win a Silver Slugger.

It's been a busy week for Cubs winning awards. On Monday, president of baseball operations Theo Epstein was named the Sporting News Executive of the Year. On Tuesday, Rizzo and right fielder Jason Heyward won Gold Gloves.

The biggest awards are handed out next week. Third baseman Kris Bryant is one of three MVP finalists, while right-hander Kyle Hendricks and left-hander Jon Lester are Cy Young finalists. Joe Maddon is also a Manager of the Year finalist.
