Hundreds Of Anti-Trump Marchers Gather Downtown
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Hundreds of people marched again Saturday through streets in downtown Chicago, protesting Donald Trump and his election as president.
At least two groups were marching in and around the Loop, according to organizers and police. WBBM's Mike Krauser reports.
The protesters were chanting, "No KKK, no racists. USA. No Trump," "No more deportation. We say yes to immigration" and other slogans.
Michigan Avenue near Wacker Drive was blocked to vehicle traffic as the protesters headed toward what organizers said was a gathering near the Art Institute.
On Saturday about 1 p.m. Richard Domenico Ehlert, an organizer of a larger group, said the group was walking heading east on Adams towards the Art Institute. His group is not named and Ehlert said the protesters are peaceful.
"We're just trying to exercise our First Amendment rights. We're protesting Donald Trump," Ehlert said. "We do not accept Trump's hatred, his bigotry, his sexism and his homophobia. With the popular vote we elected Hillary Clinton, not Donald Trump."
The protests appeared orderly, but two arrests were reported by Chicago police.
Chicago police have been "extremely cooperative, more cooperative that I ever would have imagined," Ehlert said.
As marchers walked north on Michigan Avenue past the Tribune Tower, some sang "All You Need is Love," and "We reject the President-elect," while others chanted, "water is life,'' and "our bodies, our choice."
