Metra Plans Online Auction Of Surplus Cars, Trucks

CHICAGO (AP) — The Metra commuter rail agency serving the Chicago area is holding an online auction of surplus sedans, pick-ups and utility trucks.

The auction begins Monday and closes Dec. 10. It's the first time Metra has used an online auction to generate revenue following a test auction last month.

Bidders register online for free at publicsurplus.com. Select Illinois as the region and Northeast Illinois Regional Commuter Railroad as the participating agency. Discover, MasterCard and Visa credit cards will be accepted.

Item descriptions, photos and disclosures of known issues will be provided on the website. Vehicles will be sold "as-is."

Winning bidders will receive an email notice and then have five days to pay and pick up items at Metra locations. Used railcars are expected to be sold through a future auction.
